What is Human-in-the-Loop?
Fully automatic isn't always the goal. A human-in-the-loop design lets AI handle the repetitive work, such as drafting replies, collecting details and summarizing, while a person approves things like quotes, refunds, contracts or anything the AI isn't confident about.
Common patterns include approval queues for drafted messages, automatic hand-offs when a customer asks for a person, and alerts when the AI detects an emergency or an unhappy customer.
Over time, as evals show the AI handles a task reliably, more of it can be automated, while high-stakes decisions stay with people.
